The campaign report looks healthy. Click-through rates above benchmark, cost per conversion trending down, the agency is pleased. Yet revenue is flat. Somewhere between the click and the close, value is leaking.
The three common leaks
Leak one: the conversion is not a customer. Many accounts optimise toward soft conversions: page views, button clicks, newsletter signups. The platform dutifully finds more of them. Tighten the definition: a conversion is an inquiry from someone who could realistically buy.
Leak two: the landing experience breaks the promise. An ad that promises a specific service should land on a page about that specific service, in the same language and tone, with one clear next step. Sending paid traffic to a generic homepage is the most expensive routing error in digital marketing.
Leak three: nobody follows up fast enough. Speed to first response is one of the strongest predictors of whether an inquiry becomes a client. An inquiry answered in five minutes and one answered tomorrow are different businesses.
Audit the whole path, not the ad
Walk your own funnel monthly: click your ads, fill in your forms, time the response. Then connect the data end to end, from campaign to inquiry to closed revenue, so that optimisation targets profit rather than platform metrics.
Ads do not grow companies. Coherent funnels do. The ad is only the first sentence of the conversation.
